Is the sun enough? The truth about us needing vitamin D.

If you live in Canada or anywhere that you cover your skin from the sun on a regular basis, you could probably benefit from taking a vitamin D supplement. I take it every single day because it helps with mood and can help when you feel the lows of the grey cold winters.

But that isn't the only benefit...

Here are some other reasons you might want to increase your vitamin D intake....

Stronger bones: Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium, which is essential for building strong bones and preventing osteoporosis.

Improved immune function: Vitamin D is important for maintaining a healthy immune system, and low levels of vitamin D have been linked to an increased risk of infections.

Reduced risk of chronic diseases: Research suggests that adequate levels of vitamin D may help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and some types of cancer.

Improved mood: Some studies have shown that vitamin D may have a positive effect on mood and may help alleviate symptoms of depression.

Improved muscle function: Vitamin D may play a role in maintaining muscle strength and preventing falls in older adults.

Reduced risk of respiratory infections: Some studies suggest that vitamin D may help reduce the risk of respiratory infections such as the flu and pneumonia.

As always, it is important to make sure that you are incorporating lots of whole foods as the basis of your diet in order to feel your best and only use supplements as just that... supplements.

Here are some of my favourite vitamin d supplements...
